Harold Swartz 505th PIR, 82nd ABN Div

When the gliders came in on this day we had dug ourselves in on the edge of the field. We stayed in our dug in positions throughout the glider landing, to give the gliders as much space as possible. There was not much groundfire around at that time, so I guess we had the area pretty well secured.

There were few obsacles on the field where the gliders had to land. However there were some trees and the ground was rough and uneven. A lot of the gliders crashlanded, causing quite a few casualties.
